Classes and Events

Above all, gardening should be fun! The more you understand about how plants grow, the more fun you'll have gardening. Our informational and fun gardening classes offer something for everyone - experienced greenthumb or excited beginner. Be sure to check our blog for pictures of past classes and our fun-filled events. Feel free to request classes and we'll do our best to get them scheduled.

February

Orchid Drop-in Workshop
February 11-12, noon-3pm

If you have a warm, sunny window, you have the perfect spot for an orchid. Orchids are so exotic and beautiful that they intimidate many people, but they're incredibly easy to grow! Drop in this weekend between noon-3pm to pot your own and learn the basics. Our experts will be on hand to cover the basics of orchid growing: Fertilizing, watering and everything else you need to know about orchids.

Secrets From My Grandma's Garden
February 11, 2pm

A refreshing look at using heirloom vegetables by noted Fort Collins botanist and author Don Eversoll. He will give a 45 minute presentation on everything from sowing seeds to harvesting vegetables for your favorite recipes. He will be signing copies of his book, "Secrets From My Grandma's Garden," and give away a few door prizes.

Composting 101
February 18, 11am

Starting a compost pile is easy and you probably already have the materials to make your own rich, crumbly compost. Compost increase the microbiology of your soil and helps feed your plants naturally. It also helps plants resist pests and disease. Join Phil Phelan for a lesson in composting and how to speed up the process for lots of homemade compost. Once you get started, you'll wonder why you didn't start a compost pile sooner.

Cooking with Herbs $15

Linda Hoffman, owner of Come Back to the Table and Colorado food columnist will talk about cooking with fresh vs dried herbs and which are worth the extra dollar to buy fresh. She'll also give you tips on growing your own herbs and how to harvest correctly. Class is full.

There will be lots of delicious tastings including:
Fresh Sage and Walnut Pesto
White Beans with Rosemary and Thyme
Sauteed Chicken with Rosemary
White Wine and Sun-Dried Tomatoes
Compound butters like Blue Cheese and Thyme

Weekend Workshops
February 25-26, noon-3pm

A weekend devoted to all of our favorite make-and-take workshops! Bring a friend, your son or daughter and make it a fun day to share and learn about plants.

Drop in to build your own miniature garden or terrarium, wire a bonsai, plant a container or herbs, start your garden seeds and learn about organic gardening. Each project will have a different price. More information to come.

Seed Starting
February 25, 11am

Learn seed starting tips and tricks from the experts! Growing your garden from seed is usually less expensive than purchasing starter plants, and you can find more variety. Renee from Botanical Interest Seeds will demonstrate the best ways to start seeds and how to keep them strong and healthy until you put them outdoors.

March is All-Natural Face and Skin Care Month!

Every Sunday in March at 1pm, Join Master Herbalist and Licensed Aesthetician Kathy Spencer to learn how to do your own facials, steams and masks. She will show you how to create your own scrubs and creams using herbs and organic ingredients. Come prepared to try a few treatments and go home with recipes and samples. Art in Bloom, March 2-4

Art in Bloom is a popular exhibit in museums and art galleries across the nation. It's something you have to see to believe! We have invited several of Fort Collins' best floral designers and artist to participate. Each floral designer will find inspiration from a work of art and recreate the essence of the work with a stunning floral design. There will be at least 10 floral designs on display. More information to come.

Live music on Saturday, March 3 from noon-3pm by David Michael Boyd. His moody, acoustic guitar is the perfect background for these beautiful works of art. Check him out on iTunes.

Vegetable Growing
March 17, noon

If you're new to gardening, this is the class for you. Join Sherry Fuller to learn the basics of many common garden crops.

You'll learn about cool and warm season crops, how to start seeds, amending soil, organic fertilizers and pest controls. If you've ever had vegetable growing questions, now is the time to ask!

Fairy Garden Festival
March 24-25, noon-3pm

The second annual Fairy Festival! Drop in to make your own fairy garden, learn fairy folklore and enjoy tiny treats at the fairy tea party.

Build your own fairy garden for $35-45. We supply everything you need to get started: Container, soil, two plants, an accessory piece and materials to decorate with. We have a great selection of miniature garden accessories to finish your garden.

Edible Landscaping

Make your landscape beautiful AND edible! Colorado has many edible shrubs and small trees that will fit into urban landscapes. Join Sherry Fuller to learn what shrubs do best and tips for creating a beautiful landscape that you can turn into jams, jellies and homemade pies!

Sure, bats are a little creepy but they're misunderstood animals and they are beneficial for your garden. Bats feast on moths, spiders and mosquitoes and improve the eco-system in your backyard. Join our friend Michelle Rogers to learn how to attract bats, provide them the right shelter and other essential knowledge about bats.

Native Plants and Xeric Gardens

Colorado boasts some beautiful, hardy plants that thrive in harsh conditions. Using native plants is economical, and they usually thrive in clay soil. Learn how to incorporate these low-maintenance plants into your existing landscape.

Many people assume that xeric gardens are less attractive, but it's just not true! Join Sherry Fuller to learn about Colorado's best and most beautiful native species.

Spring Open House
