The Benefits of an In-Ground Irrigation System
A good irrigation system gives you precise control over watering, even when you're away from home. Rain sensors will prevent the system from running during a heavy rain. You can run your system on a timer, or manually turn it on each time you need to water.
The most efficient systems use low-volume drip irrigation for perennial, annual and vegetable beds to conserve water and minimizes run-off. You get water where you need it, when you need it, and the roots have plenty of time to soak up water.
In irrigation system is not a terribly expensive investment. Most systems range from $2000-$7000, depending on the number of zones, complexity and other factors.
