NASA's Top 15 Plants for Purifying Indoor AirBenzene - a common solvent found in oils and paints. Trichloroethylene - used in paints, adhesives, inks and varnishes. Formaldahyde - used in building materials like particle board and foam insulation. Many of these plants originate from tropical areas where they are adapted to low light conditions underneath dense canopies. They survive in low light by being ultra-efficient at capturing light and processing gasses necessary for photosynthesis. NASA recommends at least one of these plants (6-8 inch container) per 100 sq ft of floor space.
